I’m almost there.

When Rowling took such a firm position against the trans community and our right to agency, it hit me hard. As a child the Harry Potter books were my escape from a troubled childhood fraught with abuse and invalidation. I identified so much with Rowling’s characters and the world she created and have had to mourn the loss of a role model over the last year in order to get to a place where I can even consider reading, listening to, or watching the books and media of Rowling’s creation.

That said, I think I’m close to being able to dive back into Rowling’s wizarding world. You’re right — I shouldn’t let Rowling’s misguided beliefs take away an imporant part of my childhood.

Thank you for your thoughtful piece.
