I very much agree with this piece. We shouldn't be patting men on the backs for not being misogynists. Praising them for simply not being misogynistic enforces the idea that misogyny is where the bar lies, and that anything beyond that quality is above and beyond. It's not -- it's the absolute bare minimum.

It reminds me of an old joke (paraphrasing) -- "A feminist man needs only walk over the bar because it's just that low."

We can and should hold men to higher standards than this. The bare minimum hardly deserves praise, and we are only conditioned to think it does because so many men are grossly misogynist without any significant repercussion to their careers. Our standards are way too low and we deserve better.
